Hello Piqua Central Families,

We continued to be impressed by your student’s willingness to get better.  They are exhibiting our pillars of being Kind, Respectful, and Responsible with great HEART (humility, excellence, awareness, relationships, and toughness).  We appreciate your work with us as we continue to encourage their growth.  Below you will find some key points for the upcoming weeks.

1. Attendance continues to be a focus for us.  To reward great attendance, we will be kicking off our 95% attendance challenge for the months of October and November.  Those students who attend school 95% of the time or more during these months will receive a skating pass to 36 skate club.

2. We are currently finishing up our opening year screenings.  Wherever your student starts the year, we have a belief that “Every kid can!”  We will continue to encourage students to try hard.  To stay updated on your student’s progress, please go to Progress Book.  If you need help with accessing Progress Book please contact us at 937-773-2017.

3. Your student can log on to the app IXL on a phone, ipad, tablet, or computer to practice their ELA and Math skills.

4.  Needohs and Squishies: One of the newest fads are needohs and squishies.  Please note that if the needoh or squishy causes a distraction, the student will be asked to put it in their bookbag.  We want to encourage students to leave their needohs at home so they do not get lost or misplaced.

5.  Don’t forget about our mum fundraiser.   This fundraiser is used to support field trips, positive behavior incentives, playground and field day.  Our goal is for each student to sell 4 items.  Those students who sell 4 items will be entered into a schoolwide drawing.  There will also be a buyout option for those who do not wish to sell.

6. After School Activities offered right now at Piqua Central.

• Brickmasters Club (5th and 6th grade students). Applications Due Monday, September 28th.
• KKids - (4th, 5th, and 6th grade) - Applications are available at school.
• Boys Basketball -  (4th, 5th, and 6th grade)  - Forms were sent home with students. First practice will be October 14th.
• Girls Basketball -  (4th, 5th, and 6th grade)  - Forms were sent home. Skill work has started Thursdays after school.
• Boys and Girls Metro League - (4th, 5th, and 6th grade) - Tryouts are October 19th.

Family Connection: 

1. Students can report bullying by going to www.piqua.org.  In the “Student Resources” section, there is a link.  The reports go directly to the emails of administrators.

2. Please talk with your student about cell phone safety.  Students could be subject to harassment, intimidation, and bullying through social media.  This can lead to depression, anxiety, and lowered academic achievement.
