Hello Piqua Central Families,

We are excited to kick the school year off on Tuesday, September 8th.  We are super excited to encourage the growth of students and make a positive impact on their lives. Please see below for a couple of items to get started.  As always, if you have any questions or need anything, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 937-773-2017.

1. For the 1st day and week of school, please go over with your student how they are getting home. 

2. School lunches for all students are free. Please practice lunch numbers with your students.

3. School Supplies - bookbag, pencils, and wired 3mm jack headphones/earbuds

4. Our word of the month is Humility.  We will be encouraging students to improve everyday!

5. For safety purposes, families are not permitted to enter the school building to walk students to their classes on the 1st day!

6. Thank you for your patience and safety during dismissal and drop off.

   1. AM Bus Riders - Please make sure you are at the bus stop 5 minutes before the bus is slated to arrive.

   2. AM Car Walkers and Car Riders - Doors open at 8:20 am. Supervision on the sidewalk starts at 8:15 am.  We ask that families keep students in their cars until 8:15. 

   3. Car Rider drop off - Please use the inside lane near the sidewalk. Drop off points are between the red lines. We will be pulling cars all the way up to the bike rack.  Once there are approximately 10-15 cars along the sidewalk, we will give a signal to let your child out.  We will repeat this process to get all students in the building safely and efficiently. 1. Dismissal starts at 3:15. 

2. Bus Riders - Please be patient with drop off times the 1st few days as drivers get to know their students.

3. Walkers - Families who meet walkers, please plan to meet your students on Park Avenue sidewalk or Ann St. and Nicklin please make sure you use crosswalks and signs. Please use cross walks and lights.

4. Car rider pick up - please form two lines. One line along the curb and a second line along the light poles.

   1. For dismissal, parents are allowed to use both lanes in front of the school (leaving the inside lane open as you approach the sidewalk. Students whose parents are parked on the curb are allowed to get in and leave.  Students whose parents are parked on the inside lane must have a Central staff member walk them to the car.  Students can also be pick up on North side of Park Avenue alongside the school.   Please do not park on the south side of Park Avenue and encourage your student to walk across the street. Please do not get out of your car as your student’s safety is our top priority.

1. This year we will work very hard to reach high expectations for all our students to prepare them for success.  We will track the following data for the 1st quarter and communicate your student’s progress along the way.  

   1. Attendance (95% attendance)

   2. Behavior (3 or less office referrals, 90% green behavior week)

   3. Reading (on Grade Level)

   4. Math (on Grade Level)

   5. Writing (on Grade Level 

   6. Knowing math multiplication facts through the 10’s

   7. Walking/running a mile in 16 minutes.

Family Connection: 

1. We take bullying very seriously.  We will be teaching students how to report bullying through the hotline.  The hotline is accessible at home by going to www.piqua.org.

2. Please talk with your student about cell phone safety.  Students could be subject to harassment, intimidation, and bullying through social media.  This can lead to depression, anxiety, and lowered academic achievement.
